Natural and fair soap handmade with love

YAKOKO - the Social Soap

Feel good, do good

With its handmade soap production, YAKOKO is a social business initiative by ÁGUA POR ÁGUA (ApA), driving positive change in Mozambique. YAKOKO soaps are coconut-based, 100% vegan, and handcrafted with local ingredients by a fairly employed team.

Over 100.000 soaps already distributed in schools

But that's not all! YAKOKO soaps are a socially impactful choice: Every purchase of YAKOKO soaps contributes directly to the WASH in Schools programme from ÁGUA POR ÁGUA (ApA), actively improving primary schools’ water access, sanitation facilities, and hygiene conditions in Maputos. By choosing YAKOKO soaps, customers are investing in high-quality, natural products and supporting a good cause.
YAKOKO soaps go beyond just providing nourishment for your skin. With every soap you acquire, you contribute to a meaningful social cause, actively participating in creating a better and healthier environment for our community.

Our soaps are crafted using 99% locally sourced organic ingredients. Every element is carefully chosen for its quality and benefits. By using local ingredients, we not only support our farmers and communities but also ensure that you get the best of Mozambique's natural goodness in every bar.

More than just products; they are crafted with love and dedication. Each soap is meticulously handmade by skilled artisans in our community. The process involves care, attention to detail, and a personal touch that sets our soaps apart.

These three aspects — a social cause, local organic ingredients, and handmade with love — define the essence of our soaps, making them a conscious and caring choice for you and our community.

"YAKOKO is a great contribution to our society because it not only takes care of our skin, but it also improves water access through ÁGUA POR ÁGUA (ApA): each soap at a time we improve hygiene conditions of the kids in Maputo - that's what makes the difference.

YAKOKO - a Social Business Initiative by ApA

YAKOKO is a social business initiative by ÁGUA POR ÁGUA (ApA)  and helps to improve sanitation facilities as well as hygiene conditions in primary schools in Maputo.Access to clean water and gender-equitable and inclusive sanitary facilities is a fundamental human right. Unfortunately, many schools in Maputo lack these essential resources, adversely affecting students’ and teachers’ health, education, and overall well-being.

Through the WASH in Schools programme, ApA is committed to transforming the educational landscape in Maputo. Since 2018, ApA has been working with the Maputo City Council (CMM) to define key priorities and objectives to improve WASH services in the 101 primary schools of Maputo with a holistic approach.

Together for water and the love of life

The non-profit organisation WASSER FÜR WASSER (WfW), German for "water for water", was founded in 2012 in Switzerland and has been active in Mozambique since 2018. It’s working for a fair and sustainable use of water resources - because drinking water must not be a privilege.

Over the past years, WfW has made substantial progress in developing local WfW organisations, resulting in the formation of the overarching WfW organism. This accomplishment underscores WfW's commitment to fostering its involvement with local teams and structures. By further professionalising the organisation in Switzerland and establishing WfW organisations in Mozambique and Zambia, WfW has advanced its mission with context-specific entrepreneurial, social and ecological approaches. That is how the WfW organism pursues the goal of having an impact wherever it is active.

With social businesses like YAKOKO, WfW is using an economic approach to solve economic and environmental problems. All profits are reinvested in the social enterprises or support the WfW organism and its organisation as a whole.

The WfW organism increases its overall impact with social businesses like YAKOKO.
